Music Video Editing

Before editing, we wrapped up the filming process. We recorded all of the clips that we needed. Now that we have all of the clips, we had to get them onto the computer. Some of the clips were recorded on the camera provided for the school. The other clips were recorded on our phones. To be more exact, the clips recorded on the camera were the ones that were steady and contained a pan or tilt camera motion. The clips recorded on our phones were tracking shots. We also recorded B-roll shots on our phones as well. The B-roll shots consisted of filming the Chic-Fil-A sign. we also recorded the bags of Chic-Fil-A burning on a phone.
The footage that we recorded on the camera was the footage to be imported first. For this, we needed to get a hold of an SD card reader since we weren't at school when editing. Luckily our friend that lives close buy had one we could borrow. So we walked over to his house and got the SD card reader so we could start dumping. Once we got back to the house, we started importing our footage. At first, we imported the footage onto the desktop of the computer. Then we imported the footage into FinalCutPro which is the editing software we used. After uploading the footage on the camera we all sent the footage to our email addresses so that we could download it onto the desktop of the computer. Once we had the footage saved onto the desktop of the computer, we imported it into the editing software. Now that we had all of our footage in the editing software, we looked up our song and downloaded it off the internet and saved it to the desktop. After saving it, we uploaded it to FinalCutPro and we could finally begin editing.
To begin the editing process, we brainstormed a couple of edits we could do in the music video. For example, since the video had to be in between a minute and 5 seconds to a minute and 15 seconds. To do a cut off once we reach our limit. The cut off would look like if an error occurred and it'll show the static screen when you don't have a connection on the TV. Another group member said to make the transitions with the beat changes. Another idea that was proposed was to add visual effects and make the video more visually appealing. Once we wrote down all of our thoughts, we began editing. The best editor of the group edited the video. Once he was finished, my other partner and I watched it to see if anything should be added or taken out. The video turned out perfect on the first try. It was visually appealing and it contained all of our ideas. The only change that was made is that we took out some visual effects. We took out these effects because they didn't make sense in that part of the video. Once we finalized all the changes, we saved the music video to our desktop and turned it in,.

Music Video Filming

The class period before the break, I signed out a tripod, camera, and SD card. During the break, my group and I were scheduled to film our Music Video. Wednesday was the first day of the break. On Wednesday, I texted the group chat for the music video, asking if they were available to film. It took a while for me to get a response, but I understand why. One of my group members was leaving town, so he was getting ready to leave. My other group member was busy sleeping and woke up later in the day. Once they responded, it was clear they weren't going to be available to film on Wednesday. One of my group members was leaving for the break, and another member of mine was busy preparing for Thanksgiving with the family. I was actually looking forward to filming the music video. Unfortunately, it didn't happen on Wednesday because my groupmates were busy.
On the day of Thanksgiving, none of us were available to film. This was for the simple reason, that we were all spending time with our families for Thanksgiving. Although we weren't able to film Thanksgiving, we all wished each other a Thanksgiving. Besides wishing each other a Thanksgiving, we all decided that the group member that was in town and I could start filming on Friday. On Friday morning, I texted my filming partner to ask if he was still available to film. After an hour he answered and said that he could film. So, I began to get ready and I started to head over his house. Once I arrived at his house, I picked him up and we headed over to Chic-Fil-A. We arrived at Chic-Fil-A, and grabbed everything we needed and headed inside the restaurant. Once we entered the restaurant we asked the manager, if it was allowed for us to film on their property.
After we asked the manager if it was cool to film on their property, we began to order some food. We needed to order food because we were going to need some of there bags with their logo as props for the video. Not only did we ask for food, but we asked for extra bags. Once we received our food we headed to the front of the restaurant to film the B-Roll shots needed for the video. Once we got all the shots we could, we headed back to my group mates' house. Once we arrived at his house, we started filming B-Roll shots of the church. In the song, Kanye mentions both Chic-Fil-A and a Church. This explains why we are filming at these locations. Now, we are going to begin editing our commercial. Once we start editing, we also have to go and film a couple last shots that need the whole group there. Once we get these shots, we will dump them onto the laptop, and add them in where they are needed. After we do this we will render the final product and turn in our Music Video for a grade.
